Basic Expat Training Manual Review

Living in the Philippines

Living in the Philippines - The Basic Expat Training Manual is an ebook meant to aid people thinking about moving to the Philippines.  It is written by an expatriatethat has been living in the Philippines since early 2008.

It seems that when he came over, he didn’t know a lot about the Philippines and it was quite a shock to him.  However, with a optimistic outlook and a delightful Filipina that loves him, he’s had a magnificent time living in the Philippines.

The author’s name is Rusty and he has a sweet Filipina named Jessie as his girlfriend. They have a pair of her kids living with them, a maid and a Philippine monkey!

Rusty talks about the low cost of living in the Philippines quite a bit on his blog and plunges deeply into that in his eBook. It even includes his actual budget. It seems renting a nice home in the Philippines is absolutely affordable.

Living in the Philippine allows those living on a pension or limited funds to intensify the opportunities they have in life.

Though the dollar to Philippine peso exchange rate is rather low right now, it seems that it is still much cheaper to live in the Philippines than the USA. Rusty talks of being perplexed when other expats complain that it cost more to live in the Philippines. He has found it next to ridiculous for it to cost more to live in the Philippines and thinks those people just like to complain.

It seems he would know what he is talking about. One gets the feeling that those foreigners do just like to whine and they probably don’t actually live in the Philippines. They visit, sometimes for a a small number of months but that just isn’t the same thing as living in the Philippines.

Rusty gives a more balanced outlook toward the Philippines that do nearly all. He doesn’t try to convince people that it is a prefect place to live but he also has a pressing love and respect for the Philippines and its people.

In the manual and on his blog, he takes a deep look into the customs of the Philippines and shares what he learns.

Rusty seems to really enjoy living in the Philippines. I’ve read his book and I plan to also live in the Philippines.  His manual has made it possible for me to begin living to the Philippines sooner than I would have otherwise been capable too.
